Trenching

Trenching for New Estates

Telstra’s policy is that, whenever practical, underground (rather than aerial) lead-in cables must be installed. There may be circumstances or particular locations that prevent this from happening but in most cases, it will be necessary to prepare for an underground installation of the phone line to a new building site.

The trench must be excavated from a pre-installed pick up point, near the front property boundary known as a Jitnet (Just in time network).

Location of this Jitnet point under the ground is different at each property and will require a visit from one of our technicians to pinpoint its exact position.

From this Jitnet point, the trench will need to be dug to the house within one meter of your electricity box which should be accessible to service technicians.

Once the Jitnet has been found and the trench has been excavated, we are able to install the pipe ready for backfilling.

You can dig and backfill the trench yourself or arrange for your own contractor to do this work. Alternatively our Phoneworks technician may be able to complete the trench or arrange a contractor to do the work for you.

Underground Phone Installation

Trenching for Established Suburbs

Again, Telstra’s policy is that, whenever practical, underground (rather than aerial) lead-in cables must be installed, except in some particular locations or circumstances that prevent this from happening.

In most cases, it will be necessary to prepare for an underground installation of the phone line to a new building site.

Exact details of property alignment, specifications and the route of the trench are best discussed with you by our Phoneworks technician when onsite as every situation is different.

Ultimately the trench will need to be dug to the house within one meter of your electricity box with 300mm cover on top of the pipe from the finished ground level when completed.

You can dig and backfill the trench yourself or arrange for your own contractor to do this work. Alternatively our Phoneworks technician may be able to complete the trench or arrange a contractor to do the work for you.
