MDF Installations & Connections
Telecommunications "Main Distribution Frame" (MDF)
The Main Distribution Frame, or MDF as it is commonly known, is where the legal responsibility of the Telcos finishes.
From this frame (into the premises) all telecommunications wiring is privately owned and maintained.
During the installation process, your provider will arrange to have the line connected and "tagged" on the MDF.
This then allows a licensed technician to identify the line and connect it through to whereever it needs to go.
Tagging a line on the telecommunications MDF
During the installation process, your provider will arrange to have the line connected and "tagged" on the MDF.
A tagged line will contain appropriate information for the private telecommunications technician, including:
- The name on the order.
- The phone number of the line being connected (if appropriate).
- The order number associated with the service.
- The date when the line was connected.
- Cable details (more information for your telecommunications technician).
